Hello from Guatemala!

Hi 3/4B

Are you having fun at school? I am missing you all but we are having a great time in Guatemala. It is a very interesting place with friendly people.

My sister's wedding was yesterday. The ceremony was held in the gardens of a beautiful macadamia nut farm, just out of a town called Antigua.

We are leaving Guatemala tomorrow and I will be back at school on Thursday. I am looking forward to seeing you all and celebrating Christmas together!

Say hi to everyone for me!

See you soon,
From Mrs Hamilton

Taiko drumming

Taiko Drumming

On the 14th of May my dad and my mum played the Japanese taiko drumming at the Box hill community art centre. Everyone was so excited to play the drumming. When my parents played, everyone was so amazed. We did some playing the drumming too. We were all happy. I’d think that everyone enjoyed. I really enjoyed!

For 2 weeks we had swimming  .The most fantastic day  was the fun day. We played lots  of games
like this ball game, we needed  to kick the ball to try to make it go firther. The next game we needed it to croll across the mat i got over , when we got out of pool we grap our towel and our shoes and socks and went to the change room we got, dressed  then went on the bus IT WAS SO FUN!!!!

swimming

On the first day I was so excited to go swimming. Then when we got to Aquarina first we had to get our clothes off and you had to put your plastic bag and towel on top of everything so you would'nt have to chuck all your stuff out then put in. Then we had to put your bag on the shelves and put your goggles on and go to your cones on the cones it had your swimming teachers name on it so you would no where to go. Then we walked in a line and went in the water.  First it was cold and then after it was fine and in some days you were allowed to go to the outside pool.  After a while we got to do sting ray where you go under the water and do breaststroke but sometimes you can lose your breath.  Then after we went to get our bathers off and  put them in our plastic bag but I always rushed because I wanted to be first so I could sit in the back seat in the middle.  When we were driving back to school I would sometimes sit next to Taya, Yaren or Karrina and when we got  back to school we did work.

3/4B's picture story book

This term 3/4B has done picture story books to read to the preps. Most of us are up to the illustrating our picture story book.  This is amazing that 3 people have already finished. Everyone else is on illustrating or typing. We are all working hard. Thank you for reading.

Still frame animation

This week we have been taking photos of our sea creature to make a video of still frame animation. So far 3 groups have finish taking the photos, and 1 group have made the photos into and video on the computer. every group has to add narration and music on their still frame animation, and it is alot of fun making our still frame animation!!!

picture story book

This term our class has been writing a picture story book. When its finished were going to read the book to the preps and grade ones. Most of us are up to illustrating. its a little bit tricky. At least 3 people has finished. every one else is not but there close. Where trying very hard.

Swimming!

Swimming lessons start this week and will be running for the next nine school days (Monday 29 August - Thursday 8 September).

Just a reminder about what to do every day:
  • Wear your bathers underneath your school uniform.
  • Bring any asthma puffers or medication and give them to the teacher.
  • Bring a separate bag with your towel and (if required) goggles/swimming cap.
  • When we arrive at swimming EMPTY your swimming bag.  Put your school uniform in the bottom of the bag and your towel ON TOP.  Put your socks into your shoes and put your shoes next to your bag.
  • After our swimming lesson pick up your shoes and bag, get changed, and put your wet bathers and towel into your swimming bag.
You might like to practise this at home with your parents.  Following these steps will help us to be organised and ready for swimming lessons, and will reduce the amount of lost property and wet school uniforms!

water watch

Yesterday I did water watch we caught bugs.  It was funny. the bugs were running fast the bugs are funny because the bugs don't want to get into my spoon and they run very fast.  They are hard to catch!

Hooptime

25 kids from 3/4 A, 3/4 B and the 4s From 4/5 A went to hooptime 2011. It was at knox basketball ground, Boronia. There was three teams, one was the kerrimuir Rabbits, they were rookies, there was kerrimuir Mavericks, they were Future stars, they also won the grand final, and the team I was in was Kerrimuir magic, they were Future magic too. It was just for fun so if you lost it doesnt really matter. We all got a McDonalds voucher, a certificate and a sticker. We all had a fantastic time.

Water Watch macrorinvertebrae

On Tuseday the 16 I did water watch ! It was really fun because we got to get the spoon and we found lots of animals and and I even found a FISH. I caught a really big fish that was trying to escape from the container .I have to say the fun part of that day was pobably picking up the fish and the boring part was when we had to identify the animals. We didn't just find fish we also found weird and weider things in that tray. The only really bad part was when the lady had to go and we had to pack up. But I can't wait till the next exciting to do!!

sea creatures

3/4B and 3/4A are making sea creatures. There was a selection of fish, shark, whale and dolphin. Most people chose sharks. We have started to papier mache. The white paper is harder to do, than the newspaper. The papier mache is really fun... But also tricky! When we were done with the papier mache, we will paint the sea creatures.

Waterwatch

All the 3\4's walked down to koonung creek. When we got there 3\4B got to play a game it was about birds and wet lands. Julie put down ropes ,the colours were Red, yellow, Blue and Green. Then there wascoloured cards, we had to try and get them, but we were only aloud 1. We were birds. It was kind of tricky because there was a lot of people and we had to grag them as quickly as we could. I had a good time I can't wait till the next one!:)

Open Night

On the day of open night we sang a song called I just called to say I love you. I sat in the front of the stage. My mum heard that song when she was little, in Vietnam, and now. Not everyone liked that song, but my mum does. I really like that song, I hope nobody will laugh at me and my mum. My mum came into my classroom and saw my work. I had a fantastic night. I hope everyone else did as well.

When I first came to Kerrimuir the first thing I became excited about was the Maths measurement. The second thing which I became excited about was the students height writing in my maths book. I like maths the most. I like maths the most because it's interesting. By Lakshman

Hockey Clinic and Gala Day

We played so much hockey today, it was fun. We learnt how to stop the ball and which side to use to hit the ball. There was a guy that came from Doncaster his name was Viktor.

On the 23rd of March 2011 we did hockey with Victor. He was really good and we played lots of games. We learnt how to hold the hockey properly, dribbling, how to stop and loads more. We played a game called spider.

Antonyms

3/4B are working on Antonyms. Antonym is another word for opposite. Like for example: hot and cold or wet and dry. We even made posters. They are all great ones. Then we are going to turn the posters into a BOOK! This what our posters had.

polite and rude, full and empty, young and old, sell and buy, messy and tidy, hot and cold, short and long, rich and poor, hard and soft, clean and dirty, nice and naughty, light and dark, hello and goodbye, up and down, dead and alive, good and bad, brave and scared, and finally on and off.

This is what our posters looked like:

Aussie of the Month

Kerrimuir Primary School runs a fantastic values program which can be viewed in detail at the KPS website. To recognise outstanding members of our school community, students who choose to live the values of our class and school are nominated for the "Aussie of the Month" award.

For the month of April, the following 3/4B students were nominated by their peers - Joel, Chris, Mia and Maya. All students in 3/4B demonstrate the Kerrimuir values and deserve to be recognised, but unfortunately there can only be one winner! 3/4B voted and the winner for April was Chris. Well done! Chris was entered into the whole-school draw to win Aussie of the Month, which was drawn on Friday 6 May. Unfortunately Chris was not the winner this time, but we congratulate Chris for his efforts and for being such a wonderful class member. All of our past nominees and winners are listed on our blog for you to see.

Library!

Great news - the library at Kerrimuir will be officially open from Monday 9 May 2011. 3/4B will have a 1/2 hour session of library each week on Friday afternoons. Students will need to bring a library bag on Fridays if they wish to borrow books. I encourage all students and families to make full use of our fantastic new library facilities and borrow books to read in class and at home. In Level 3 we recommend 15 minutes of reading every day at home (on top of any reading done in class). This can be recorded in your Reading List and signed by a parent/guardian.

I have noticed many students continued reading in the school holidays and filled in their reading lists. Well done!

From Mrs H.

Welcome to Term 2

Welcome back to Kerrimuir for Term 2! We hope your holidays were fantastic and that everyone enjoyed the extra long break. 3/4B are straight back into the action, with many exciting things happening in the first few weeks of term.

The Circus Skills program started this week, and we all enjoyed having a go at spinning plates, hula hoops and diablos (including Mrs H!) In a few weeks the program will conclude with a special circus skills excursion.

NAPLAN testing will occur next week for the Grade 3s on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. After the tests we will have a lovely relaxing excursion on Friday 13 May that combines our Japanese, Art and Music programs. Some special people will be performing at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre - the family of our very own Koetsu in 3/4B!

Soon we will be starting our new integrated studies unit - Keeping In Touch. It will be great to learn all about different types of communication technologies used in the past and present. And together with 3/4A, we have an exciting opportunity to 'keep in touch' with Year 3/4 classes at another school!

Finally, on Wednesday 18 May some students will be attending the Cottee's Schools 5-a-side soccer competition. We are taking six teams to this comp and we will be proud to represent Kerrimuir as we compete against other schools.

WOW! There are lots of things happening in Term 2! Please have a look around our blog and feel free to send us comments because we love to read them.
