Melbourne Marathon Festival

Melbourne Marathon
On the 14th of October, I went to the Melbourne Marathon Festival with my dad to the MCG. I was feeling super excited. There were thousands and thousands of people there.
When we got to the starting point, my heart was filled with excitement. There were some funny mascots as well. When it was time to run, I relaxed and concentrated on running. The mascot was actually a tiny bit good but not as me. I was keeping up the whole time with my dad. I had never stopped or walked. I was getting so tired when I got into the MCG. When we got into the MCG, we had to do 1 lap of the whole ground. I ran so fast that even my dad couldn’t keep up with me. I overtook about 30 people at the last sprint. I went through the goal and my body felt so heavy. My dad was right behind me but a guy zoomed through between us. The result was..... Koetsu-256th 27 minutes Toshi-258 27 minutes
I was so excited because I beat my record from 2 years ago! 2years ago I was 834th and 35minutes.
When I got home I had a rest. Next year I might beat the record again.

Ruby Redfort Take Your Last Breath
By Lauren Child

Ruby Redfort is a secret agent working for the undercover spy agency, ‘Spectrum’. Her secret mission this time is to go all the way to the bottom of the sea and unravel a mysterious mystery.

Here’s a sneak Peak of Ruby Redfort Take Your Last Breath!

“Don’t Worry Redfort,” said the dive instructor, chuckling. “It’s highly unlikely that the Sharks will want to snack on you – far too small.”

“On the other hand”, said one of Ruby’s fellow trainees, “maybe the kids the perfect bite-size portion.”

“Funny, really funny”, said Ruby. She pulled down her mask and fell backwards off the boat. Ruby Redfort was not scared of Sharks.
Not yet, anyway.....

the secrets of halloween

The secrets of Halloween
By Gwyneth
Halloween first started on an island commonly known as Ireland. Ireland was originally called emerald isle. Thousands of years ago, on emerald isle, the natives believed that every year on the 31st of October was when the dead came back to earth. They believed this because it was the end of crop season, and the evening before all of the crops died and the frost, ice and snow closed in on the country. To prevent any ghosts or monsters coming and eating them, they invented the jack-o-lantern. The jack-o-lantern was said to keep the ghosts and other said to be living but still dead creatures away, and to keep all the familys safe. The natives did not put then in pumpkins back then, they used hollowed out turnips and the acids inside kept the straw and stuff alight. Only when the Americans came to emerald isle did they show the natives that using a pumpkin for jack-o-lanterns was much easier. To say good bye to the summer season they rejoiced and they went knocking from door to door. Believe it or not, they received bits of different foods and they left random offering just outside the village for the ghosts and other mystical things to eat.

Abhi's Japanese Day

  Japanese Day

On Friday the 19th October we had a special day called... Japanese Day!!! We got to do different Japanese cultural activities. We got to draw, cook, and play Japanese sports and do drumming with Koetsu’s dad.

We got to have a drawing instructor to tell us how to draw 3D images on our piece of paper. I drew myself as a strong, ripped body builder! The secret to make your picture more muscular was to make him/her have a fat neck. This was called “manga” in Japanese.

The 2nd thing we got to do was “undookai” the Japanese name for sports. We got to play paper, scissors, rock and do a relay. I liked the realy a lot because there was a lot of challenging things you had to do in the relay.

The 3rd activitie was my least favourite... it was the sushi activitie. I couldn’t make or eat the sushi because I was allergic to it. But it didn’t matter because this has happened to me hundreds of times before and I was okay with it.

The last activitie was my favourite... it was DRUMMING with Koetsu’s dad! I got to play the small drum and I followed along quite easily with Koetsu’s dad. I also got to play a Japanese gong which I played pretty good as well. I had a wonderful time that day and I hope everybody else did too.

Investment Challenge

Every week we have 2 computer sessions and last week we started the investment Challenge.  We all started off with 100,000 thousand dollars and had to choose what companies we invested in. We had to choose one Industry Company and one mining company. Once you picked your companies you put your company’s names, how much money you gave them, the amount of each share and the number of shares you got in the company.

Each week we will check the progress of the company’s and at the end of the term we will see who made the most money out of the year5’s and 6’s.

Subway Surfers Victory

Subway Surfers Victory

On the 30th of October Mrs Hamilton was showing us a video on the iPad when Mrs Hamilton opened an app called Subway Surfers. I wanted to play it so Mrs Hamilton let me, because the iPad was connected to the IWB (interactive whiteboard) so everyone could see me play. I was trying to beat Mrs Hamilton’s husband Paul’s score. His score was 160,000 and something. When I was playing I was sweating so much and apparently everyone else was so stressed out. I think I actually beat my own actual score. My score was 274,227!!! points. I died when I rolled down and smashed into a hurdle. When I died everyone was so disappointed. By Chris 5A

Japanese Day

Japanese Day

On Friday the 19th of October Kerrimuir Primary School had an astonishing event called ‘Japanese Day.’ We didn’t have assembly like other Fridays; instead we had the opening ceremony for the Japanese Day. The ceremonial event consisted of Koetsu’s Dad Toshi playing his well-known tune on the drums.

After the Ceremony we got into our groups and off we went to our activities, drumming was my first activity with Toshi. I had a lot of fun with this activity and I think the other did as well.

I also got to make Okonimiaki which is a scrumptious Japanese vegetable pancake which contained, yep you guessed it Vegetables! We had to use chopsticks to eat it with which was quite challenging at first but when you get used to it, it’s quite effortless.

Next my group got to participate in the Undokai events including a Sack Race, Dodge ball, an Obstacle course and a running event. My preferred event was probably Dodge ball.

At the end of the rotations we had the closing Ceremony, Oh and I almost forgot in the opening Ceremony there was a Costume Competition. I can’t quite remember who won but I know that Zac Dooley won it for the senior boys.

On Monday 15/10/12 of October some of level 4 went to Hoop Time Basketball regionals! We went to basketball regionals because we won all of our games except the grand final so we got to go. We lost 3 out of 4 games but I think we all played well. We shot a lot of goals especially Zac and Holly but everyone else were great defenders. After we had the presentation and everything we got to go to McDonalds!   We only got McDonalds because we all played well and we were fair. We got chocolate Sundays and frozen cokes. When we came back from hoop time we got to have free time which was fun because only the people that did hoop time got to. We all loved hoop time and we want to do it again

K.P.S. Hoop Time!

One day grade 5 and 6 did hoop time!
Hoop time is when 4 teams in each school come together to play basketball. If you win more than 5 games you can get in the finals and win a basket ball.

Well all the K.P.S. teams did great and 3-4 teams made it to grand final. 2 teams lost in the finals and the other team tied. 2 days later Mrs. Hamilton announced something very exciting, 1 team made it to region! That team was called the K.P.S. koalas, everyone in the koalas where screaming with joy. The people that where in the koalas where Jordy, Daniel, Zac, Lucy, Nikita and me. As well everyone that played hoop time got a McDonald’s voucher. You got to choose a chicken rap or a cheese burger. By James

Team player badminton

This year we are doing badminton. It is very fun. We have two people in our team .We make a team name and tell the teacher. When all the teams tell the teacher, then the teacher makes a big list. We have all the teams name and you can look the list which team you against next. If you win against the team you challenged, the next team. And keep going to the final match if you win the final then your team is the champion of the level 4.

Geronimo stilton kingdom of fantasy by scholastic
Viewed by abhi jay
Knew from the start that it was no ordinary day, but I certainly didn't expect to find a golden staircase in my attic. Up at the top, there was a door. And beyond the door was a world I never could have imagined -- the Kingdom of Fantasy!
Along with my guide, a frog named Scribble hopper, I set off on an incredible adventure to save the Queen of the Fairies. But along the way, I had to face giant scorpions, witches, sea serpents, pixies, and dozens of other creatures that I had only ever heard stories about. Holey cheese, what a journey! Could I save the Queen . . . and my own tail?

When the Bliss parents go on a business trip, they leave the key to their magical Bliss Cookery Book with 12-year-old Rosemary, and things go haywire. “Aunt” Lily (a distant cousin) shows up, charming Rosemary’s siblings, but Rosemary senses Lily’s true aim: to steal the book. The only way to test Lily’s trustworthiness is to whip up some of the magical recipes and observe her reactions.

Badminton

Badminton

Since the London Olympics has started, the teachers of level 4 had an idea to bring the excitement and the feeling to K.P.S by starting a badminton competition. By the time the teachers had announced and had mentioned that there was a badminton competition, we all were very excited.

So one normal weekday we would come to school as usual and study all day and then go home... well, not today. When the music had gone and the level4s came in to the building, we were all surprised at what we were seeing. There it stood a big stand with a net on it-like a tennis net, only higher. We were all wondering what it was.

Later, the teacher explained to the level 4 students what it was and what is was for. Then we knew. It was a badminton net for us to play with, and to do competitions. The first thing we had to do before we got to have fun with the badminton court was to pair up with someone so we could play another pair, and also once we had paired up, we chose a team name. So I paired up with Torbin and named our selves R.I.P. Other teams chose funny names too.  When the blue grid was full with team names and the players, we made a fixture that worked just like the Australian Open. First to 7 would win, and on the other hand the loser would no longer be in the competition.

The fixture looked like this

Olympic Village

This Term Level 4’s project was to make an apartment for two athletes. The apartment had to have two bedrooms, one kitchen, and one living room. You could add other stuff but you had to have a reason why you wanted to put in extra room. One of the biggest challenges was that you had to fit it all into a shoebox! One person from each grade got put into a group to design the apartment. The apartment had to be cost efficient and sustainable.

We had about a week and a half to finish the apartment and most people finished. I was in a group with Lucy (6C) and Nyang Nayang (5/6A). I did most of the furniture and some of the constructing. My favourite bit of the project was putting the floorboards in, (I know I’m weird), with Paddle Pop sticks. My group didn’t get a shoebox till technically, the SECOND last lesson!!
We three didn’t really meet the expectation of the cost efficient rule; we spent a lot of money! We made most of our furniture out of cardboard and Paper, and some TBA cubes.
In the end we finished. Our apartment looked a little rushed, but overall it looked good!

Hoop Time

Hoop Time is where basketball teams from different schools play each other. On the 7th of August some of the grade 5,6s went to Hoop time. My team was the future star koalas. In my team there was Zac, Daniel, James, Lucy, Nikita, and me. I was very excited.
All the Kerrimuir teams won the first two rounds. Our team went very well and we made it in to the grand final. I was quite surprised. Unfortunately we lost in the grand final by a goal 5-3. All together we won 4 games, drew 1, and lost 1.
Although we didn’t win in the grand final, the good thing is that we made it in to the next level region. In my opinion our team was very, very lucky.

Level 4 Hoop Time

  Hoop Time

The level 4 hoop time people went to the Nunawading stadium on the 7th of August 2012 on Tuesday to play basket ball with other schools. I was in the Rookie team Kerrimuir Kings. My team mates were Jade, Ashim, Alice, Sarah, Jemima and I. Before the first game I was feeling so excited and my heart was thumping so quickly.
All the teams in Kerrimuir won the first two games. Our team never lost any games but sadly we got two draws so we couldn’t get to the grand-final. We did well at least we went to the semi-final. If we won instead of draw in the semi, we would’ve been in the grand-final.
The other teams went in the finals but they all lost. But one team, the Kerrimuir Koalas lost the grand-final but made it to the regions any way. They were lucky.

Hoop Time

On Tuesday the 7th of August; grades 5 to 6 participated in a basketball competition called Hoop Time. Our school would be competing against other schools. Everybody who payed and brought back their form got to go and there were 2 emergencies. We were separated in to 3 teams the rookies, future stars and the all stars. The rookie team are the people who never have played basketball. The future stars are the people who play basketball. The all stars are the people who play basketball and are really good and have some skills. I was in the all stars. The teams were tough but every Kerrimuir team except 1 future stars team made it to the grand final. Unfortunately every Kerrimuir team that made it to the finals lost. My team lost 16 to 10. But the good thing is we tried our hardest. Every team had a coach and our team’s coach was Jamie’s dad Brett Simpson. But surprisingly the team that DIDN’T MAKE IT TO THE GRAND FINAL GOT INTO THE REGIONAL BASKETBALL FINALS. Everybody in that team was really happy and all the other teams were proud of them too.

Mostly every Monday we did some dancing in the multipurpose room.
The kinds of dances we do are nut bush,
Bus stop and Macarena. Not everyone knew how to do the bus stop. Mr Chaffer taught us how to do it.  I knew how to do the nut bush and the Macarena. We danced with the music to the moves.

Buddies- Origami Olympic Rings

Every second week all the preps come into our building and we have buddies. The Olympics was on so we all agreed on making some origami Olympic rings with our buddies. We made them with square pieces of paper and helped our buddies make them. To make them it required folding, sticking and cutting.  All of our Olympic rings looked fantastic and we all had fun spending time with our buddies!
Here is what they looked like.

Last term, the last day.....is..... SUPER EGG and the KERRIMUIR GIFT!!!
Our class was great and guess what we won both of them, Jade for the Gift (running) and James for the Super Egg.
For the Super Egg it was a very close match with Super Egg she was a very round so it rolls more easily but James’ egg was much heavier so it won ,fair square.
As the Super Egg finished the Gift came around the corner. The grade 3s started then the 4s, preps, 1s, 2s, 5s and 6s. Jade was the winner for the boys in grade 5 so he went in the big race with the winning teacher and other winning students. On your marks ready set go!! Jade ran so fast and came first even though he was near the end. He got a nice certificate as well. Since the Super Egg and the Gift is annual event I hope next year is as good as this year.

The sports that we were doing were the teddy bear race was for the preps, they had to carry a teddy bear on their back and run to the finish line. The balloon race for the grade 5\6, they had to run to the end of the line with a balloon when they got to the finish line they had to blow up the balloon, tie it up then pop it and run back to the end. The three legged race for the preps and the buddies they had to tie a bandanna around their legs so it became three legs, then they had to run to the end. A jumping race for the friends and parents they had to connect arms and jump very far and if someone disconnected arms or fall over they had to start again. A relay race for the parents and one of the parents fell down. The waddle race was with a ball between the grade 4 students’ legs and run all the way to the end without dropping the ball between their legs. The grade 2’s did the egg and spoon race they had get a hardboiled egg from home then put it on a spoon and run\jog\walk to the finish line. The grade 3’s did the sack race they had to run with a sack on them to the finish line. The school and house captains\vice captains had to set up the whole thing! There was also food and drink. It was really fun.                         By Chris Moutafis
