K.P.S. Hoop Time!

One day grade 5 and 6 did hoop time!
Hoop time is when 4 teams in each school come together to play basketball. If you win more than 5 games you can get in the finals and win a basket ball.

Well all the K.P.S. teams did great and 3-4 teams made it to grand final. 2 teams lost in the finals and the other team tied. 2 days later Mrs. Hamilton announced something very exciting, 1 team made it to region! That team was called the K.P.S. koalas, everyone in the koalas where screaming with joy. The people that where in the koalas where Jordy, Daniel, Zac, Lucy, Nikita and me. As well everyone that played hoop time got a McDonald’s voucher. You got to choose a chicken rap or a cheese burger. By James

Team player badminton

This year we are doing badminton. It is very fun. We have two people in our team .We make a team name and tell the teacher. When all the teams tell the teacher, then the teacher makes a big list. We have all the teams name and you can look the list which team you against next. If you win against the team you challenged, the next team. And keep going to the final match if you win the final then your team is the champion of the level 4.

book reviews

Kerrimuir has recently had their book fair. Book fair is when schools buy books from a book company such as scholastic, and then people in the school come and buy the books. My class and I bought some books let’s see what they recommend!

Geronimo stilton kingdom of fantasy by scholastic

Knew from the start that it was no ordinary day, but I certainly didn't expect to find a golden staircase in my attic. Up at the top, there was a door. And beyond the door was a world I never could have imagined -- the Kingdom of Fantasy!
Along with my guide, a frog named Scribble hopper, I set off on an incredible adventure to save the Queen of the Fairies. But along the way, I had to face giant scorpions, witches, sea serpents, pixies, and dozens of other creatures that I had only ever heard stories about. Holey cheese, what a journey! Could I save the Queen . . . and my own tail?

The Follow Your Bliss Bakery has a remedy for everything. Stone Sleep Snickerdoodles can cure sleepwalking, and Fluffy White Macaroons once lifted a neighbour right out of a well. When the Bliss parents go on a business trip, they leave the key to their magical Bliss Cookery Book with 12-year-old Rosemary, and things go haywire. “Aunt” Lily (a distant cousin) shows up, charming Rosemary’s siblings, but Rosemary senses Lily’s true aim: to steal the book. The only way to test Lily’s trustworthiness is to whip up some of the magical recipes and observe her reactions.

Badminton

Badminton

Since the London Olympics has started, the teachers of level 4 had an idea to bring the excitement and the feeling to K.P.S by starting a badminton competition. By the time the teachers had announced and had mentioned that there was a badminton competition, we all were very excited.

So one normal weekday we would come to school as usual and study all day and then go home... well, not today. When the music had gone and the level4s came in to the building, we were all surprised at what we were seeing. There it stood a big stand with a net on it-like a tennis net, only higher. We were all wondering what it was.

Later, the teacher explained to the level 4 students what it was and what is was for. Then we knew. It was a badminton net for us to play with, and to do competitions. The first thing we had to do before we got to have fun with the badminton court was to pair up with someone so we could play another pair, and also once we had paired up, we chose a team name. So I paired up with Torbin and named our selves R.I.P. Other teams chose funny names too.  When the blue grid was full with team names and the players, we made a fixture that worked just like the Australian Open. First to 7 would win, and on the other hand the loser would no longer be in the competition.

The fixture looked like this

Olympic Village

This Term Level 4’s project was to make an apartment for two athletes. The apartment had to have two bedrooms, one kitchen, and one living room. You could add other stuff but you had to have a reason why you wanted to put in extra room. One of the biggest challenges was that you had to fit it all into a shoebox! One person from each grade got put into a group to design the apartment. The apartment had to be cost efficient and sustainable.

We had about a week and a half to finish the apartment and most people finished. I was in a group with Lucy (6C) and Nyang Nayang (5/6A). I did most of the furniture and some of the constructing. My favourite bit of the project was putting the floorboards in, (I know I’m weird), with Paddle Pop sticks. My group didn’t get a shoebox till technically, the SECOND last lesson!!
We three didn’t really meet the expectation of the cost efficient rule; we spent a lot of money! We made most of our furniture out of cardboard and Paper, and some TBA cubes.
In the end we finished. Our apartment looked a little rushed, but overall it looked good!

Hoop Time

Hoop Time is where basketball teams from different schools play each other. On the 7th of August some of the grade 5,6s went to Hoop time. My team was the future star koalas. In my team there was Zac, Daniel, James, Lucy, Nikita, and me. I was very excited.
All the Kerrimuir teams won the first two rounds. Our team went very well and we made it in to the grand final. I was quite surprised. Unfortunately we lost in the grand final by a goal 5-3. All together we won 4 games, drew 1, and lost 1.
Although we didn’t win in the grand final, the good thing is that we made it in to the next level region. In my opinion our team was very, very lucky.

Level 4 Hoop Time

  Hoop Time

The level 4 hoop time people went to the Nunawading stadium on the 7th of August 2012 on Tuesday to play basket ball with other schools. I was in the Rookie team Kerrimuir Kings. My team mates were Jade, Ashim, Alice, Sarah, Jemima and I. Before the first game I was feeling so excited and my heart was thumping so quickly.
All the teams in Kerrimuir won the first two games. Our team never lost any games but sadly we got two draws so we couldn’t get to the grand-final. We did well at least we went to the semi-final. If we won instead of draw in the semi, we would’ve been in the grand-final.
The other teams went in the finals but they all lost. But one team, the Kerrimuir Koalas lost the grand-final but made it to the regions any way. They were lucky.

Hoop Time

On Tuesday the 7th of August; grades 5 to 6 participated in a basketball competition called Hoop Time. Our school would be competing against other schools. Everybody who payed and brought back their form got to go and there were 2 emergencies. We were separated in to 3 teams the rookies, future stars and the all stars. The rookie team are the people who never have played basketball. The future stars are the people who play basketball. The all stars are the people who play basketball and are really good and have some skills. I was in the all stars. The teams were tough but every Kerrimuir team except 1 future stars team made it to the grand final. Unfortunately every Kerrimuir team that made it to the finals lost. My team lost 16 to 10. But the good thing is we tried our hardest. Every team had a coach and our team’s coach was Jamie’s dad Brett Simpson. But surprisingly the team that DIDN’T MAKE IT TO THE GRAND FINAL GOT INTO THE REGIONAL BASKETBALL FINALS. Everybody in that team was really happy and all the other teams were proud of them too.

K.P.S Dancing

K.P.S dancing
Mostly every Monday we did some dancing in the multipurpose room.
The kinds of dances we do are nut bush,
Bus stop and Macarena. Not everyone knew how to do the bus stop. Mr Chaffer taught us how to do it.  I knew how to do the nut bush and the Macarena. We danced with the music to the moves.

Buddies- Origami Olympic Rings

Every second week all the preps come into our building and we have buddies. The Olympics was on so we all agreed on making some origami Olympic rings with our buddies. We made them with square pieces of paper and helped our buddies make them. To make them it required folding, sticking and cutting.  All of our Olympic rings looked fantastic and we all had fun spending time with our buddies!
Here is what they looked like.
